"The Women of Brewster Place" was an award-winning mini-series that first aired on television in 1989.  

Based on Gloria Naylor’s novel, this movie follows the lives of seven women who live in a housing project on street named Brewster Place.

As their lives unfold over three decades, each woman struggles in her own way to overcome poverty, prejudice and emotional pain. 

This television mini-series won the 1991 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Television Drama Series. "The Women of Brewster Place" was also nominated for two Emmy Awards.

• This movie is based on the award-winning novel, "The Women of Brewster Place", by African-American author Gloria Naylor.  Gloria Naylor won a 1983 American Book Award for "The Women of Brewster Place."

•  "The Women of Brewster Place" was the first film that Oprah Winfrey's company, Harpo Productions, produced.

•  There was a television spinoff of "The Women of Brewster Place" called Brewster Place, but it was short-lived because of low ratings.

twenties to their fifties, all of the women have suffered some
type of hardship in their life which can be attributed to
some form of male exploitation.
