With an all-star African-American cast, "Uptown Saturday Night" is a great comedy movie. This was the first film that Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby starred in together during the 1970s and because of its enormous success, they made two more films together.

Steve Jackson (Sidney Poitier) and his best friend, Wardell Franklin (Bill Cosby) decide to sneak out one night and go to Madame Zenobia's club. While there, they are robbed, and in Steve's wallet is taken along with the rest of the loot.

The next day Steve finds out that the lottery ticket that he had in his wallet is the big winner! Upset, he and Wardell decide that they have to get it back but still not let their wives know that they were at Madame Zenobia's nightclub. They hatch a plan that ultimately leads them through a hilarious adventure with crooks, politicians and church people.

Flip Wilson, Richard Pryor, Harry Belafonte, Calvin Lockhart and Rosalind Cash are some of the acting greats that star in this classic Black movie.

∙  Since "Uptown Saturday Night" was such a commercial success, the studio asked Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby to do another film together. The next movie that Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby did together was appropriately named, "Let's Do It Again." In all three films, Sidney Poitier was the movie director.

∙  "Uptown Saturday Night" was the first of three films that Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby made together.  The other two were Let’s Do It Again and A Piece of the Action.  These three films are considered a trilogy even though they play different characters in each one.

∙  Originally, "Uptown Saturday Night" was going to star Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx.  However, the studio did not think that they were a bankable pair and canned the idea.

∙  The director of this movie, Sidney Poitier, also directed these other Top 100 Black Classic Movies:  Let’s Do It Again,
A Piece of the Action and Buck and the Preacher.
