Three Sisters, a Dream, and Triumph over Tragedy

Irene Cara, Lonette McKee and Dwan Smith star in "Sparkle" - a story about the journey
three sisters take towards fame, the pitfalls they encounter and the victory at the end.

After winning an amateur contest, Stix (Philip Michael Thomas) believes that the group
can become big time entertainers. He gets Sparkle and her sisters a gig at a local nightclub
and they become sensations. However, the success brings with it many temptations, including
one for the eldest sister (Lonette McKee) who gets involved with an abusive criminal.

Another sister, Sparkle (Irene Cara) finds romance with Stix but the pressures of
the group and the problems they all encounter threatens their relationship.

Difficult times are ahead, but through the hardships and trials, there is a
"Sparkle" at the end.

With a hot, Billboard topping soundtrack "Sparkle" is a movie that will give you
"Something You Can Feel."

• Curtis Mayfield composed the successful movie soundtrack for "Sparkle".  Aretha Franklin
sang all of the songs making the album a comeback sensation hit for her.  Aretha Franklin's career
was not doing well when she agreed to sing the soundtrack for "Sparkle." It became a chart-topping
album and relaunched her music career.  

• Curtis Mayfield also composed the soundtracks for two other Top 100 Black Classic Movies
films: Claudine, A Piece of the Action and Superfly.

•"Sparkle" was Lonette McKee and Dorian Harewood’s first major film.
