"Lean on Me" is the true story of high school principal Joe Clark, who armed himself with a bullhorn and Louisville Slugger and slammed the door on losers at Eastside High in Paterson, New Jersey. 

Brought in to save the school, he chained the doors to keep troublemakers out and strivers in.  Some parents and teachers fought him.  But many kids loved him.  He turned the school around and his achievement became a national triumph.

∙  To prepare for this film, Morgan Freeman spent time with Joe Clark in order to learn his speaking style and mannerisms.

∙  This movie is based on the true story of principal, Joe Clark, at Eastside High School in Paterson, New Jersey. Eastside High School was considered one of the most raucous and disorderly schools in New Jersey. Two years after Joe Clark became Principal, the Governor named Eastside High School one of the model schools of New Jersey.

∙  Real students and teachers from Eastside High School appeared as extras in the film.

∙  Won two 1991 NAACP Image Awards:  Outstanding Motion Picture and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Motion Picture (Morgan Freeman)
