several African-American R&B Artists – The Dells, The Temptations, Sam Cooke,
Frankie Lymon and others.
• Robert Townsend not only directed this movie, but also he co-wrote it with
Keenen Ivory Wayans.
• The Dells singing group were consultants to the film and provided memoirs
and other information to Robert Townsend. The Dells also sing two of the songs
on the "The Five Heartbeats" movie soundtrack.
• Robert Townsend also directed Hollywood Shuffle, another Top 100 Black Classic Movies film.
