A heartwarming film, "Driving Miss Daisy" is a story about a White, Southern woman named Daisy (Jessica Tandy) and the respectful friendship that she ultimately develops with her Black chauffeur, Hoke Colburn(Morgan Freeman).

Set in the South during the 1960s, "Driving Miss Daisy" covers the twenty-five year relationship that develops between these two most unlikely friends.

Touching on racial prejudice, growing older and the value of long-term friendship, "Driving Miss Daisy" is a movie that also touches the heart.

∙  "Driving Miss Daisy" was originally an off-Broadway play that won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1988.

∙  Morgan Freeman also starred in the off-Broadway play as Hoke Colburn. He was able to successfully take his Broadway performance and translate it into an award-winning performance on screen.

∙  Alfred Uhry wrote the "Driving Miss Daisy" play.   He based it on his own grandmother Lena Fox and her chauffeur Will Coleman.  Originally, Uhry thought that the play would be modestly successful, but it became a surprise, off-Broadway hit. "Driving Miss Daisy" ran for three years. Because of its success as a play, "Driving Miss Daisy" was made into a movie.

∙ Jessica Tandy won the Best Actress Academy Award for her role as Miss Daisy. When she won this award, she was the oldest actress ever to have won a Best Actress Academy Award.

∙  Morgan Freeman won a 1992 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Motion Picture.
