Description
"Carmen Jones" is the movie version of the Broadway musical, Carmen Jones. Featuring an all-Black cast, this movie stars Dorothy Dandridge and Harry Belafonte in one of their most memorable roles together. The cast includes many other famous and notable African-American actors and actresses of the time, including Pearl Bailey, Brock Peters and Diahann Carroll.
"Carmen Jones" was one of the few all-Black cast movies to be made during the 1950s and was a huge success. In fact, Dorothy Dandridge made Hollywood history when she was nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for her performance in this film.
Dorothy Dandridge stars as Carmen Jones, a sultry and feisty employee at the parachute factory. When she gets into a fight with another woman, a handsome soldier named Joe (Harry Belafonte) is put in charge of her. Joe is in love with his longtime sweetheart Cindy Lou (Olga James), but through circumstances is lured into the hot arms of Carmen Jones and runs away with her.
