Movie Summary
"Car Wash" is a lighthearted comedy about a day at a Los Angeles Car Wash.
It's a busy day at a Los Angeles "Car Wash" that has all types of characters working at the car wash and coming through to get their cars cleaned. Most memorable among the patrons is Daddy Rich (Richard Pryor) who comes through in his stretch limousine with his entourage that includes The Pointer Sisters.
There's also love in the air as car wash employee, T.C. (Franklin Ajaye) is trying to get the beautiful
waitress at a nearby restaurant (Tracy Reed) to go out on a date with them. Then, there's the hooker,
crazy kid on the skateboard and Mad Pop Bomber who add to the mix.
With a Grammy Award winning soundtrack in the background, "Car Wash" will have you laughing
and grooving the whole time.

• "Car Wash" was directed by African-American director, Michael Schultz. Schultz's film just before
"Car Wash" was another Top 100 Black Classic Movie - "Cooley High."
• The title track to this film, “Car Wash” was a number one hit and considered one of the biggest song hits
of the disco era. Norman Whitfield developed the movie soundtrack with the singing group, Rose Royce
performing the songs.
• The car wash used for this movie was located in downtown Los Angeles at 6th and Rampart.
It was torn down years ago.
• Richard Pryor makes only a cameo appearance in this movie and later in his biography,
"Pryor Convictions and Other Life Sentences", says that he felt that ticket buyers were being deliberately being
misled about to think that his part in this movie was bigger. Also, he admitted he was high during the making of the film.

• "Car Wash" was also nominated for a 1977 Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song –

• "Car Wash" won two 1977 Cannes Film Festival Awards: Best Music (Norman Whitfield) and Technical Grand Prize (Michael Schultz). The movie was also nominated for a Cannes Film Festival Golden Palm Award (Michael Schultz).
