Movie Summary
Oprah Winfrey and Danny Glover star in "Beloved" - a movie based on Toni Morrison's
Pulitzer Prize winning book.
Sethe (Oprah Winfrey) is a former slave now living near Cincinnati with her daughter Denver (Kimberly Elise).
Paul D (Danny Glover) is an old friend who used to be on the same plantation as Sethe years ago.
After Paul re-enters Sethe's life, Sethe starts having terrible and frightening flashbacks about her older dead
daughter, her grandmother and other family members that seem to have mysteriously disappeared from her life.
Also, an obviously abused young woman (Thandie Newton) turns up at Sethe's house and gets nursed back to health
by Sethe's daughter. The young woman is given the name "Beloved."

• "Beloved" the movie was a personal pet project for Oprah Winfrey. Winfrey bought the rights to the film version
of the Toni Morrison book "Beloved" in 1987 and spent the next ten years putting together the movie. Oprah Winfrey
not only stars in "Beloved" as Sethe, but also was the film's producer.
• This movie is based on Toni Morrison’s novel, "Beloved," which won a 1988 Pulitzer Prize. Toni Morrison based
the book on an actual historical event that she came across while helping to compile information about African-American
history.
• Beah Richards, who stars in "Beloved" as Grandma Baby was in poor health during the making of the movie.
"Beloved" was the last movie that she made before passing away in 2000. Beah Richards was an outstanding
actress who
