Movie Summary

This movie is based on the book, "The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman", by Ernest J. Gaines.

It is about a 110 year old woman, Miss Jane Pittman (Cicely Tyson) who, through flashbacks, eloquently tells the
story of her life from the Civil War to the Civil Rights Movement.  The interesting story about Miss Pittman’s life is
fictional, but the historical facts are true.  Consequently, this highly-acclaimed movie brings to life and personalizes
over a century of the Black Experience in America.

It’s the 1960s.  The Civil Rights Movement is alive.  How does Miss Jane Pittman view it, especially as an
African-American woman who has experienced so many trials, challenges and changes over the years?
