Harlem Double Feature Movies are a collection of DVDs that contain two films on each DVD.
The movies are All-Black Cast films that were created for All-Black audiences during the early 1900s. Because of stereotypes of African-Americans in movies, there was a desire in the Black community to see films that more realistically represented them and their entertainment needs.
Seeing this need, there was a number of independent Black filmmakers who made movies specifically
for Black audiences during this time. These films have become known as "Race Movies" and only a few
of them have been preserved over the years.
These movies may seem crude by today's standards, but they reflect are a very important part of
African-American movie history. They also provide telling insights into the thoughts and concerns of
people in the Black community during the time that they were made.
