"Sanford and Son" is a comedy TV show starring Redd Foxx and Demond Wilson.
"Sanford and Son" aired on television from 1972 - 1977. It was about a Los Angeles junk dealer named
Fred Sanford (Redd Foxx) who ran the business with his bachelor son, Lamont. (Demond Wilson) Every
week, Fred and Lamont faced something new that brought lots of laughs for the audience.
Sometimes Fred's friends would be involved in his latest schemes like Grady (Whitman Mayo) and Bubba
(Don Bexley).
Some of Fred's most memorable phrases on "Sanford and Son" were: "You here that Elizabeth? I'm coming to
join you!" and "You big dummy!" (Fred referring to his son Lamont.)
One of the funniest, greatest tensions in the show was between Fred and his deceased wife's sister, Aunt
Esther (LaWanda Page). The dialogue between them typically involved Fred insulting Esther's looks by
saying things like "Why don't you go stick your face in some dough and make some gorilla cookies."
To which Esther often replied "Watch it sucka!" and made some reference to Fred being a "heathen"
or "fish-eyed fool."
Given its tremendous popularity, "Sanford and Son" was able to get many famous African-Americans
to do guest appearances on the show. Lena Horne appeared in a special 1973 episode called
"A Visit from Lena Horne."
Funny, groundbreaking and entertaining, "Sanford and Son" is a top Black classic tv program.
