• The school that is shown as Walt Whitman High is Los Angeles High School in Los Angeles, California.
The school building is no longer standing as it was badly damaged in a 1971 earthquake. To make the
show more realistic, some scenes for "Room 222" were filmed at Los Angeles High School.
• "Room 222" gave top billing to two African-American actors, Lloyd Haynes and Denise Nicholas. This was
very unusual for the time. The only other major television show prior to "Room 222" that had given top
billing to an African-American was "Julia" which starred Diahann Carroll.
• Lloyd Haynes (who plays Pete Dixon) was a U.S. Marine prior to becoming an actor. He served in the
Marine Corps for twelve years. He has appeared in a number of TV shows before being cast as Pete Dixon
in "Room 222." Dixon passed away in 1986 from lung cancer.
• "Room 222" was the first major ongoing acting role for Denise Nicholas. Nicholas performed in a number
of television programs prior to being cast at Liz McIntyre in "Room 222." Denise Nicholas has also starred
in the Top 100 Black Classic Movie "Let's Do It Again." |
