This is the inspiring, true story of Wilma Rudolph -
the first American woman to win three gold medals in one Olympic game.
Born into a large, poor family in Clarksville, Tennessee, Wilma Rudolph seemed like the most unlikely person
to become an internationally famous athlete. She overcame having polio, pneumonia and scarlet
fever as a child. Very sickly, she could barely walk for years and depended on her siblings to help exercise
her legs.
Then in 1960, after having overcome all of her physical troubles, she stunned the world and achieved what no
American woman had ever done. She won three Olympic Gold Medals in the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome.
It is absolutely amazing how she rose from the most unlikeliest of circumstances to become an
internationally-acclaimed, recordbreaking athlete.
"Wilma", the story of her life, will inspire, encourage and make you proud. It is based on Wilma
Rudolph's autobiography Wilma.
