Movie Summary

"The Sophisticated Gents" is about members of a black athletic/social club who gather together for a twenty-five year reunion to honor the coach who first brought them together.

As they reminisce about their lives, the highs, lows and struggles that each of them has had to deal with becomes more apparent.

When an escaped convict with a pursuing cop shows up at the gathering, The Sophisticated Gents reunion goes in a completely unexpected direction.

∙  Based on the book, “The Junior Bachelor Society” by African-American writer, John A. Williams.

∙  The Sophisticated Gents was actually filmed in 1979 which was two years prior to its being shown on television.  The miniseries first aired on September 29, October 1 and October 2, 1981.

∙  Melvin Van Peebles, who stars in the movie, also helped write the screenplay, produce the program and compose some of the music.

∙  Paul Winfield won a 1982 NAACP Image Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Miniseries or Movie.

"The Sophisticated Gents" is not available on DVD. However, you may be able to find used VHS copies.
