| Brief Biography |
Spike Lee became nationally prominent as a film director with his breakthrough movie, She’s Gotta Have It. He wrote, produced and directed this film with little financing and it was a surprise box office success.
Spike Lee is known for making films that deal with tough social and political issues, including prickly topics within the African-American community.
Because of Spike Lee’s enormous success as a filmmaker, he is credited with opening the doors for other African-American film directors.
