| Brief Biography |
Josephine Baker was an African-American performer who became famous for her exotic, sensual dancing.
In 1925 when she traveled to Paris to perform as part of La Revue Negre, she decided to stay in France. She opened a nightclub, Chez Josephine, and became a French sensation.
In 1937, she became a French citizen and covertly helped the French government against the Nazis during World War II.
