Hattie McDaniel Achieved a Series of Firsts in Movies, TV and Radio
“I sincerely hope I shall always be a credit to my race and to the motion picture industry," said Hattie McDaniel when she became the first African-American to win an Academy Award.
This award was the many of "firsts" for Hattie McDaniel who spent the early years of her life as a singer.
